Student Insurance

High Point University is concerned with the overall health of its students as well as the availability of medical health coverage for students away from home.  Full-time, undergraduate, day  students are required to provide evidence of primary insurance as a condition of enrollment at High Point University.

All fulltime, undergraduate, traditional day students will automatically be enrolled in and charged $300 for a supplemental student insurance plan that has been designed to cover their basic insurance needs at a very reasonable price.  Please note that the plan provides limited benefits and is not intended to replace any existing major medical coverage.

Parents should consider whether their existing coverage, if any, is sufficient to cover their son/daughter while away from home and whether or not the College Student Accident & Sickness Plan might be a wise investment.  The Student Accident & Sickness Plan has no deductible, which means that it will supplement your health plan’s deductible and co-pay requirements.  Many students who already have coverage in place still find this a very wise investment.  In the absence of primary insurance coverage, the Student Accident & Sickness Plan will provide limited benefits for physician office visits, laboratory services an prescriptions.

The HPU/EIIA Student Accident & Sickness Insurance Plan covers Sickness as well as Accidents on a 24-hour basis, both on and off campus for  twelve full months.  The annual cost of the plan is $300. The cost has already been added to your student account. Participation in the Plan will be required unless evidence of primary coverage is provided prior to September 18, 2009.  Students must waive out of the Student Accident & Sickness Plan by going to the High Point University website and completing a waiver form with primary insurance information.  Once the waiver information has been approved, the $300 fee will be removed from the student's account.  This policy is not a requirement for use of services at the HPU Student Health Service clinic.  All fulltime, undergraduate students may utilize clinic services.  For information about HPU Health Services, please visit the Student Health Service webpage.
