HPU Fraternity Pi Kappa Phi To Hold Fundraisers For Philanthropies

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 5, 2009 – High Point University fraternity Pi Kappa Phi has several fundraising efforts planned throughout November to support various causes, including its national philanthropy, PUSH America.

On Nov. 6, the members of Pi Kappa Phi will host a cookout, beginning at 4 p.m., at McEwen Crossing. The members will distribute information on disability awareness.

On Nov. 7, half of the chapter will serve as volunteers at the State Special Olympics Competition.

On Nov. 16, Pi Kappa Phi will host a movie at the University Center’s Extraordinaire Cinema, starting at 7 p.m. The event will promote disability awareness.

The month will culminate with Pi Kappa Phi’s annual No Boundaries Week and Bike-a-Thon. Events during the week will include wheelchair basketball, an empathy dinner (diners will experience simulated disabilities) and a Miss Push Pageant. The week will conclude with the Bike-a-Thon – the brothers will bike for 24 hours straight in the Slane Student Center.

"We are excited to give back to the community, and we are always looking for ways to get involved with our national philanthropy and support other organizations," says Andrew Realon, Pi Kappa Phi archon. "The chapter is planning to participate in the HPU Student Government Association's United Way campaign, as well as the Pi Kappa Alpha Turkey Bowl this month."

The chapter will also send delegates to a national conference over the winter break to develop leadership skills, and will host a concert and other large philanthropy events during the spring semester.

"All of the brothers represent the mission of our national fraternity – 'we will lead.' Each brother has done a remarkable job of finding opportunities for the chapter and then making them happen," adds Realon. "We are excited for what the future can bring. Pi Kappa Phi was chartered on High Point's campus on April 19, 2008. Last year, we were awarded the Fraternity of the Year and Highest GPA by the university."
