The computers in Hayworth Hall Room 115 run on Linux instead of Windows. These computers are dedicated to the Computer Science (CS) Department. Internet access and email through CS accounts are only available to CS students.
Why is the lab closed off during lab hours?
Sometimes labs are reserved for special seminars directed towards the staff, but a sign on the door will let students know when such events will occur.
Password Questions
Do I need a password to use the Computers in the Lab?
Yes.
But I need to turn in my paper tomorrow, can't I just use a computer?
You MUST have a password to use the computers. There are no exceptions so please don't ask. If you are in this situation it is because you waited until the last minute to complete your assignment.
How do I get a password to use the Labs?
Every student received one with their orientation packet. If you have lost this information, you may come to the lab in Norcross Graduate School, Room 142, and ask to fill out a form to receive one. The password will then be sent to you.
I am typing in the right user-name and password but it doesn't work. What do I do?
The most likely scenario is that you are typing in the wrong username or password. Remember that the passwords are case sensitive, make sure you are not typing in all CAPS. Also, be sure you type in your username, press "TAB" or click in the password field and type your password before you press enter. If you are still unable to get in, you may fill out a form to receive a new password.
How can I change my password?
1. Make sure the computer you are about to log into is a LAB machine
2. Once logon is complete press down and hold "Ctrl" "Alt" and "Delete"
3. Click on "Change password" button
4. Make sure that the "Domain" box reads "ACADEME"
5. Type in your old password in the text box
6. Type in your new password in the text box
7. Type in your new password in the "Confirm Password" box
8. Click "OK".
Network Drive
What is my network drive?
Your network drive is 20 megabyte of space reserved for you on our Student file server. Often referred to as an 'O drive', you can store documents and files there that are too large to fit on a floppy diskette. Your network drive is exclusively yours. No other users can access files or folders that are stored on your network drive.
How do I know if I have an "O:" drive?
Look under "My Computer". You should see a network drive icon labeled "username on 'hpufileclust\students$' (O:)". If for some reason you do not find it, see the below section on mapping your network drive.
How do I connect to my network drive (O drive)?
Your network drive should be automatically connected for you when you login to a lab computer. You can verify this by double-clicking on the "My Computer" icon at the top of your screen. In the "My Computer" window you should see an icon labeled "username on hpufileclust\students$". If for some reason you cannot find your network drive, you may need to map it manually.
How can I manually map my network drive?
Logon to a Windows NT Workstation. Right-click on the "Network Neighborhood" icon and select "Map Network Drive".In the dialog box that appears, select "O:" for the drive and type "\\hpufileclust\students$\username" in the path field. This should automatically connect you to the logon. If not, contact the Information Technology Department.
