The Parents Council

The Parents Council is comprised of parents, grandparents, and guardians of current HPU students and is the board that represents all parents of HPU students. The Parents Council is dedicated to providing critical feedback on current University policies and activities and to offering solutions to advance the University into the future. There are many ways the Parent Council helps High Point University.

Summer Welcome Events
The most enjoyable responsibility of the Parents Council is to assist with the Summer Welcome Events. These informal gatherings are hosted by our members to introduce new students and their families to HPU before the school year begins. It is a great opportunity to network with other parents in your area. The HPU Office of Parent & Alumni Relations will add to the festivities with exciting HPU gifts. For those of you who do not live near one of these events, you are welcome to contact us or any Council member through the Office of Parent Relations.

Make Phone Calls to Parents of High School Students
Introduce yourself as a member of the Parents Council to half a dozen future students and parents in your area. Typically, these are students who have been accepted to HPU and may be still ‘on the fence’ in their decision.

No preset formula for this call; just speak from the heart about your child’s decision to choose HPU and how ‘extraordinary’ your experience had been thus far. For contact details of high school applicants in your area contact Andy Bills abills@highpoint.edu .

Write Letters to your Child’s High School Counselor about the HPU Experience
Increasing enrollments is vital to maintain HPU’s momentum. Many high school students rely on their high school counselors for advice when making their college choice. Conveying to these high school counselors how extraordinary the educational experience is at HPU makes a big difference. Tell them about your wonderful personal experience at HPU!

Parent Council Meetings
Our Parents Council program is a campus-wide endeavor to enrich the High Point University experience for students and their families. Family involvement is critical to the success of our students, and the Parents Council gives interested parents a meaningful and enjoyable way to become more active in the University community. As parents who attended our recent Parents Council meetings can attest, often vigorous discussion takes place on the important issues!

The Fall Semester Parents Council meeting is scheduled for October 3, 2009 during Alumni & Family Weekend. For more details email Gene Kininmonth in Parent Relations ekininmo@highpoint.edu.

Support the Parents Fund
Every gift counts and supports the University’s mission. Parents may designate their gift to the area of their preference at the University.

To volunteer your support on the Parents Council or discuss your gift to HPU please email Gene Kininmonth in the Office of Institutional Advancement at ekininmo@highpoint.edu or call directly at 336-841-9266.
