Counseling & Psychological Services

Office of Counseling
The High Point University Office of Counseling and Psychological Services strives to provide assistance to students who may experience emotional, behavioral, and/or psychological problems during the transition into college life. As this is a time for change and growth, we recognize that it brings with it exploration of your ability to manage stress, build relationships, balance work and play, and learn more about the person you are becoming.

Location
Counseling Service Staff are located on campus on the 3rd Floor of the Slane Center. Office hours are from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.

 Appointments
Our goal is to see clients in a reasonable time period. We make every effort to schedule appointments that work with your class schedule. We ask that you try to schedule an appointment as early as possible if you have concerns. You may schedule an appointment by calling Dr. Kim Soban, Director of Counseling at 841-9121 . Messages may be left on confidential voice mail for the counselors. You may also come by Counseling Services to make an appointment in person.

As the nature of counseling must address emergency/crisis situations first, we encourage you, therefore, not to wait to call until you feel you are in a crisis. Try to schedule an appointment as soon as you begin to develop concerns. If you are experiencing considerable distress at the time of your call, please make this known to the staff immediately. The Director of Counseling is on call for emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. If your concerns are of a crisis nature during regular business hours, you may come to the Counseling Center between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and we will arrange for you to speak with someone as soon as possible. After normal business hours, we encourage you to contact Campus Safety at (336) 841-9111 or call 911. The Director of Counseling will be paged and will contact you. If you feel suicidal and/or are concerned that you may be in danger of hurting yourself or another, you may go directly to the emergency room of High Point Regional Health Systems.
