NPC Recruitment Rules
These regulations govern the actions and interactions of potential members and sorority members during the Fall semester and during the Formal Recruitment period in January.

Definitions:
1. Currently, a potential member shall be defined as a woman who has been attending High Point University for at least one semester, regardless of class rank. Exceptions are made for transfer students. She must have a minimum grade point average of 2.25 and not be affiliated with any other National Panhellenic organization.
2. A sorority member shall hereby be defined as anyone who is currently pledged to a sorority, an initiated member, or an alumna or a national sorority.
3. The period known as formal recruitment officially begins on the day students first return from the winter break. Formal recruitment week begins on the first day of recruitment parties and concludes on Bid Day.
Rules:
1. Open bids are prohibited during formal recruitment. The last day that any sorority can extend an open bid is the last official day of class during the fall semester.
2. Potential members must have a cumulative grade point average of a 2.25 to participate in recruitment. GPA’s earned at other institutions are not applicable. Transfer students may participate during recruitment without a posted High Point GPA. Each chapter is free to release a transfer student during recruitment if that chapter believes that the potential member might fail to post the appropriate minimum GPA during her first semester at High Point University.
3. All sorority members and potential members are personally responsible for understanding and observing all recruitment rules and regulations.
4. No potential member may visit Millis Hall during the Formal Recruitment Period, with the exception of Resident Assistants whose visits are professional in nature.
5. A potential member shall attend all recruitment parties to which she has accepted invitations. In the case of illness or other emergency, the potential member must notify the Panhellenic Advisor, Panhellenic Counsel, or her Recruitment Counselor (RC). Failure to do so may result in the potential member being dropped from recruitment by the Panhellenic Counsel.
6. No sorority member may buy anything for any potential member, and no potential member may buy anything for any sorority member until after Bid Day.
7. No favors or gifts may be given to any potential members by the sorority.
8. Recruitment activities and decorations are to be limited to the inside areas only. Advertisements of any kind for individual chapter placed anywhere on the High Point University campus is strictly forbidden. Panhellenic defines advertisement as signs, banners, buttons, sidewalk chalking, flyers, or any specially produced jewelry or clothing designed to be worn to encourage potential member to consider one chapter over another. Advertisements distributed by High Point Panhellenic are acceptable only if they promote Greek unity and the entire Panhellenic system.
9. The Panhellenic Counsel will provide nametags for each potential member. Individual sororities are prohibited from serving any food or drink during recruitment activities. The Panhellenic council will provide refreshments for each night for all potential members.
10. Preference cards must be signed immediately following the final preferential party that the potential member attends.
11. No sorority or sorority member may promise a bid to any potential member either directly or indirectly during the formal recruitment period.
12. No sorority member may visit any potential member in her place of residence during the formal recruitment period. Exceptions are made for any RA who is a member of a sorority if the visit is professional in nature.
13. Strict and absolute silence (no conversation or contact) will be observed by all sorority members beginning on the first day of recruitment and ending after bids have been distributed on bid day. The only exception is necessary to class participation. This rule applies to off campus activities as well.
14 Only sorority members and their national representatives may participate in or assist a chapter during Formal Recruitment events unless otherwise approved in writing by the Executive Council of Panhellenic.
15. The Panhellenic Executive Council is empowered to choose the Recruitment Counselors (RC's). All RC’s are required to disaffiliate from their pervious sorority after selection. A RC's responsibilities are considered completed at the conclusion of the distribution of the bids. Additional RC restrictions are detailed in the RC training classes.
16. No sorority may host a formal recruitment event of any kind that has not been approved by the Panhellenic Counsel.
17. At the conclusion of the final party each night, each sorority must return their invitation list to the office of the Panhellenic advisor within the time frame determined prior to the recruitment week. A late fee of $5.00 will be assessed for each invitee on the list if the list is tardy. The late fee is paid directly to the Panhellenic Advisor. The Panhellenic Advisor reserves the right to waive the late fee if circumstances warrant such action.
18. Panhellenic Executive Council members shall observe all events and parties. Panhellenic will provide each chapter with a member of Panhellenic Executive Council to monitor all parties. No sorority member shall detain a potential member following a recruitment party.
19. Recruitment expenses shall not exceed $500.00 per sorority. This total does not include any money spent by Panhellenic. The total does include anything donated to the sorority to be used during recruitment. (. Props, costumes, lights, plants, etc…) Questions concerning expenses should be directed to the Panhellenic Advisor.
20. First Night recruitment parties are defined as icebreakers. Second and Third Night parties are defined as preferential parties. Icebreakers may contain only slide shows and singing, which are each limited to 10 minutes. Skits are limited to 15 minutes and are allowed only during preferential events.
22. Alcohol shall not be consumed on Bid Day by any member or new member, regardless of age. Bid day is defined as midnight following preference to midnight the following day. All other rules pertaining to id Day defined by the National Panhellenic shall be observed and enforced by all members of each sorority.
23. Each member of Panhellenic Executive Council is required to disaffiliate from her respective sorority at the same point as RC’s. Panhellenic who assist during Formal Recruitment Week must refrain from wearing any outward signs of affiliation during Recruitment Events.
23. The use of alcohol, illegal drugs, or any alcohol or drug paraphernalia is forbidden during any formal recruitment even. Paraphernalia is defined as anything related to the use of alcohol or drugs, or anything advertising any specific alcohol product or illegal substance.
24. The Panhellenic Executive Council will set quota each year. Panhellenic acknowledges that the purpose of quota is to allow each chapter to pledge as many women as possible during formal recruitment and, if necessary, after formal recruitment ends.
25. A Panhellenic chapter that fails to meet quota or is not at campus total once meeting quota is free to use the continuous open bidding system (COB) to pledge new members. A COB cannot be offered to any High Point student until the conclusion of Formal Recruitment on Bid Day. If a student accepts a COB and later declines it, she cannot accept another bid from any other High Point chapter for a full calendar year.
26. The period known as Formal Recruitment is designed to promote all four High Point chapters of Panhellenic. Therefore, chapter members are not permitted to speak negatively about other chapters to potential members during recruitment week.
27. Each sorority will be required to review all recruitment rules and regulations as defined by the National Panhellenic prior to Formal Recruitment. The High Point University Panhellenic Council hereby adopts all national guidelines as written unless otherwise stated above.
