Medical Director - Dr. Danielle Mahaffey was awardedher Doctorate of Medicine by Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry with Magna Cum Laude honors from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY. She completed her residency training in Family Practice at Moses Cone Health System and served a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Moses Cone Health System. Dr. Mahaffey is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.
Shannon McElroy, Physician Assistant - Shannon completed the Physician Assistant Certification Program at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Shannon graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro.
Julie Swaim - A health care management professional, Julie Swaim has an extensive track record of coordinating exceptional patient care while efficiently balancing the needs of physicians, office staff and corporate administrators. As a Cornerstone Health Care office manager, she has actively participated in a wide range of corporate committees and classes helping to adopt and enhance management procedures relating to effective patient care. Ms. Swaim holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State University, and is a native of Thomasville, North Carolina.
Cheryl Hill - Medical Assistant Cheryl Hill has worked with Cornerstone Health Care since 2001, providing a full range of health care services including medical assisting, phlebotomy, and insurance and medical records administration. As a mother and grandmother, Cheryl brings a special level of care and compassion to her position with Student Health Services. She provides a friendly face and nurturing presence to help comfort students who aren’t feeling well -- many of them far from home and their personal family physician.
Liz Huggins, Certified Medical Assistant - A graduate of Brookstone College of Business with a certificate in medical assisting, Liz is an advocate for health and wellness, with a focus on physical fitness. As a wife and mother, she brings a unique perspective to the needs of our students. She performs clinical and lab related duties, including venipuncture, allergy and other medication injections, as well as various clinical testing, and she welcomes new challenges.
Rachelle Laster, Certified Medical Assistant - Rachelle has a BS in Education from Appalachian State University and a certificate in medical assisting from Ross Medical in Atlanta, Ga. Rachelle has special interest in promoting cancer awareness and is active in her church parish. As the mother of a college student, Rachelle brings special understanding of the parent's perspective when students are away from home and need medical attention. She performs clinical testing, assists with direct patient care, and also assists in our lab, performing venipunctures.
