Tutoring
High Point University students are eligible to receive tutoring for undergraduate courses at no charge through the Academic Services Center (ASC) Tutors review difficult material and answer student questions; they do not take the place of class attendance or effort on the part of the student. Assistance is available year-round via walk-in tutoring, individual tutoring, supplemental instruction, and writing fellows.
Walk-in Tutoring. Walk-in tutoring hours promote the use of group tutoring where students can learn from other students as well as the tutor. The walk-in schedule is posted in the ASC, in various classrooms on campus, and on the ASC website.
Individual Tutoring. Students who require more one-on-one academic support may request to meet a tutor individually. Students who want to schedule an individual session are asked to complete a Tutor Request Form, available at the front desk of the ASC.
Supplemental Instruction. The Supplemental Instruction program places a tutor (SI Leader) in designated classrooms. SI Leaders listen and take notes during class lectures and are available for tutoring during scheduled ASC hours. SI arrangements are coordinated between the ASC, the instructor, and the SI Leader. For more information about the SI program, visit the ASC website.
Writing Fellows. Writing Fellows are available to review students' essays for structure and content. Such assistance supplements the grammatical support offered by English tutors. Writing Fellows complete the three-credit Seminar in the Teaching of Writing course. To meet with a Writing Fellow, students are asked to make an appointment at the ASC front desk 24 hours in advance.
